Hi! I'm Mari, a Kansaigaidai student. I wouldlike to share information about Nara with you since I recommend you to visit there if you come to Japan, and many people visit there. Nara is next to Osaka, which is the second biggest prefecture in Japan. It is famous for old and beautiful temples which are listed on the World Heritage list. What I think will surprise you best is many deer. They are nice, but sometimes they are intensive, begging you for sheiks senbei, rice cookies for deer. You cannot see this kind of deer anywhere else, can you? Feel free to comment if you want to know more about Nara!

「鬼（おに）は，外（そと）！福（ふく）は，内（うち）」
おに（oni）= ogre, evil spirit, そと（soto）= out(side), ふく(fuku）= happiness, fortune, うち(uchi) = in(side)

Yes.
We, young and old, really throw roasted soybeans shouting ‘‘Oni wa soto! Fuku wa uchi! ’’, which literally means “Go away Ogre! Come in Happiness!” on the day of 節分（せつぶん）Setsubun.
Every grocery store and convenience store all around the country sell a bag of roasted beans which comes along with a mask of 鬼（おに）an ogre usually worn by father or mother who plays a role of a fiend sometimes in the costume of 鬼（おに） in the evening of Setsubun.
The ogre tries to enter the house and the kids throw the soybeans at it shouting the magic word of ‘Oni wa soto! Fuku wa uchi! ’ to do away with it.
After driving it off, they eat the same number of soybeans as their age wishing happiness to come into their house.
It’s a fun family annual event.
A bag of roasted soybeans costs about 110 yen (AU$1.20).
節分（せつぶん）Setsubun is the last day of winter in the traditional Japanese lunar calendar, usually February the 3rd celebrating the end of cold winter and welcoming the beginning of warm spring full of life.
